Zoning regulates what land uses are allowed and establishes standards for construction including building setbacks, lot coverage, and building height.

*Some zoning cases may require a Neighborhood Participation Meeting prior to the case being placed on an MPC Agenda.*


APPLICATION INFORMATION

For Online Applications:

  1. Logon to www.MGOconnect.org.
    • Select Apply Online for Planning and Zoning on left side of page.  
    • When selecting an Application Type, choose "Zoning Map Amendment (Rezoning)".
    • Ensure all items from the checklist are included in your application. Refer to the Application Checklist section on the right side of this page.
    • Once submitted you will receive a confirmation message and application number (i.e. APP-MPC-####). MPC staff will review the application. You will be contacted for additional information or to progress to the next step.
  2. Submit Payment.
    • Once you have received your invoice, you may submit payment through the online portal. 
    • Locate the Dashboard, then select Open next to the case number that matches the case number in your invoice. For example (26-1-C).
    • Payment can be submitted in person on the first floor of Government Plaza at the cashier window.

  3. Attend the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) Public Meeting.
    • After internal review by MPC Staff, your application will be put on the next available MPC Agenda. You will receive information on the date of your case hearing. It is recommended that the applicant or representative attends the public meeting.
    • The Metropolitan Planning Commission will evaluate the application at the public hearing and make a recommendation on your case: Approval, Denial, or Deferral.
    • After the MPC has provided a recommendation, the application will go to the Parish Commission or City Council.
  4. Await Parish Commission or City Council's decision.
    • Once the case reaches the Parish Commission or City Council, their Staff assumes management of the case.
