Variances exist to address unnecessary hardships or practical difficulties resulting from the strict application of zoning-related standards.

Please check the Calendar page here or contact the Planning Division at 318-673-6480 to verify the deadline for variance applications that require a public hearing.


APPLICATION INFORMATION

For Online Applications:

  1. Logon to www.MGOconnect.org.
    • Select Apply Online for Planning and Zoning on left side of page.  
    • When selecting an Application Type, choose "ZBA Variance to Zoning".
    • Ensure all items from the checklist are included in your application. Refer to the Application Checklist section on the right side of this page.
    • Once submitted you will receive a confirmation message and application number (i.e. APP-MPC-####). MPC staff will review the application. You will be contacted for additional information or to progress to the next step.
  2. Submit Payment.
    • Once you have received your invoice, you may submit payment through the online portal. 
    • Locate the Dashboard, then select Open next to the case number that matches the case number in your invoice. For example (26-1-BAC).
    • Payment can be submitted in person on the first floor of Government Plaza at the cashier window.

  3. Await Public Hearing or MPC Executive Director Decision.
    • If your application requires action by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
      • Your application will be placed on the next available ZBA Agenda. You will receive information on the date of your case hearing. It is recommended that the applicant or representative attends the public meeting.
      • The Zoning Board of Appeals will evaluate the application at the public hearing and make a decision on your case: Approval, Denial, or Deferral.
    • If your application can be reviewed administratively by the Executive Director. 
      • The Executive Director must render a decision within 30 days of the date listed on the required notice, and either approve, approve with conditions, or deny the application.
  4. Finalize Plan.
    • There is a 10 day appeal period, beginning the day after the decision. 
    • The planner assigned to your case will follow up with next steps to help you finalize your plans in order for you to proceed with the permitting process.
