It is recognized that there are certain uses that, because of their unique characteristics, can be more appropriately evaluated by the Zoning Board of Appeals. These uses are known as a Special Exception Use applications.

*A Neighborhood Participation Plan may be required prior to the completion of a Special Exception Use application.*


APPLICATION INFORMATION

For Online Applications:

  1. Logon to www.MGOconnect.org.
    • Select Apply Online for Planning and Zoning on left side of page.  
    • When selecting an Application Type, choose "Special Exception Use".
    • Ensure all items from the checklist are included in your application. Refer to the Application Checklist section on the right side of this page.
    • Once submitted you will receive a confirmation message and application number (i.e. APP-MPC-####). MPC staff will review the application. You will be contacted for additional information or to progress to the next step.
  2. Submit Payment.
    • Once you have received your invoice, you may submit payment through the online portal. 
    • Locate the Dashboard, then select Open next to the case number that matches the case number in your invoice. For example (26-1-BAC).
    • Payment can be submitted in person on the first floor of Government Plaza at the cashier window.

  3. Attend the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) Public Meeting.
    • After internal reviewal by MPC Staff, your application will be placed on the next available ZBA Agenda. You will receive information on the date of your case hearing. It is recommended that the applicant or representative attends the public meeting.
    • The Zoning Board of Appeals will evaluate the application at the public hearing and make a decision on your case: Approval, Denial, or Deferral.
  4. Finalize Plan.
    • There is a 10 day appeal period, beginning the day after the decision. 
    • The planner assigned to your case will follow up with next steps to help you finalize your plans in order for you to proceed with the permitting process.
